Don't worry if you've never done this before! OpenGrowBox is completely FREE to use. We'll walk you through everything step by step.
Set Up Your Smart Home System
First, you need to install "Home Assistant" - this is like the brain that controls your smart devices. It's free and works on computers, Raspberry Pi, or even some special home assistant devices.
What you'll do:
- • Go to home-assistant.io in your web browser
- • Click the big "Get Started" or "Download" button
- • Choose how you want to install it (we recommend the easy way for beginners)
- • Follow the instructions to set it up on your device
This takes about 10-20 minutes. You'll know it's working when you can open a web page and see the Home Assistant interface.
Add OpenGrowBox to Your System
Now you need to add OpenGrowBox to your Home Assistant. Think of this like installing an app on your phone.
What you'll do:
- • Open your Home Assistant web page
- • Look for "Settings" (usually a gear icon) in the left menu
- • Click on "Devices & Services" or "Integrations"
- • Click the "+" button to add a new integration
- • Search for "OpenGrowBox" and click to install it
This takes about 5-10 minutes. You'll see OpenGrowBox appear in your integrations list when it's done.
Connect the OpenGrowBox Website
Finally, you need to connect this website (opengrowbox.net) to your Home Assistant so you can control everything from here.
What you'll do:
- • Go back to your Home Assistant settings
- • Click on your user profile picture (top right)
- • Scroll down and find "Long-Lived Access Tokens"
- • Click "Create Token" and name it "OpenGrowBox"
- • Copy the long code that appears
- • Come back to this website and paste the code where it asks for it
This takes about 3-5 minutes. You'll know it works when you can see your devices on this website.
